A view of downtown Bayeux, with its canals, stone buidings and cobblestone lanes, and the cathedral's bell tower and spires. .Bayeux is a wonderful medieval town located in the heart of lower Normandy, and it's the home of the Bayeux Tapestry, one of the oldest surviving complete tapestries in the world, made to commemorate events in the Norman Conquest of England in1066. The tapestry is displayed in a museum in the town centre. Bayeux is also famous for being the first French town to be liberated during the Battle of Normandy. I took this picture from atop a small bridge spanning the canal, on a cloudy evening of mid August.
