A comprehensive view of the Combal Lake, a high altitude plain lying at the feet of the massif known as Pyramides Calcaires, which is part of Monte Bianco (Mont Blanc) range. The name is indeed a bit misleading, as instead of a lake there are streams and small ponds. However, there was actually a lake here centuries ago, but after decades of floods the bed is now almost completely filled up with debris. Making this place one of the highest swamp in the world. This high altitude prairie is wonderful in summer, with the floor carpeted with unnumerable wildflowers, among which the white cottongrass (Eriophorum Scheuchzeri).
