And the tallest and most famous peaks of the entire Alps range such as Matterhorn, Mont Blanc, Gran Paradiso and Monte Rosa are all standing here, in a range of a few dozens of kilometres. Furthermore, there are vast wild areas, such as the Gran Paradiso National Park - the oldest and largest protected area in Italy - and the Alpi Marittime Natural Park. 57 imagesA foot-shaped island floating in the Mediterranean Sea, Sardinia is like a continent in miniature, doubtlessly as much diverse as regions several times its size. Dazzling white-sand beaches stretching between jagged promontories and towering cliffs, herb-scented granite mountains, a lush countryside and near-alpine woods, mysterious prehistoric sites and pictoresque villages and towns: despite the incomparable beauties of its varied landscapes, an average of 250 sunny days every year, a friendly and welcoming people and delicious food and wines, Sardinia is still surprisingly unspoilt and undiscovered, largely untouched by mass tourism and it represents one of the world's last paradises for photographers who looks for adventure, inspiration and unique images.

For centuries, painters have been greatly inspired by these gently rolling hills, with their changing colors in the seasons, patchwork of crop, corn and sunflowers fields, scattered farmhouses and dirt roads lined with cypress trees.

With most of the noisy crowd of tourist reduced to just a handful of art lovers, the beauties of the Serenissima are more readily appreciated. No noise, no waiting, lower prices, slower paces. For photographers, there are even more advantages. In winter days the sun seems never to rise, the light spreads through clouds of polished glass and the shadows are as long as church aisles. Just the best possible conditions, if you are looking for those moody and mysterious atmospheres you had always dreamed of, when thinking of Venice. There are only eight ours of daylight in winter in Venice, but every minute carries with it infinite opportunities for a trained eye.
