I took this picture at the reserve of Pont de Gau, just one out of the many protected areas in Camargue, France. Taking off is a complicated procedure for pink flamingos: their size doesn't allow them to just jump and earn altitude, they actually need at least 30 meters of free space for a take off to be successful, just like the runway for a jet plane. It's really interesting watching them as they look around for a suitable "airstrip", a not easy task when the lake is literally crowded with hundreds or even thousands of birds.
